Slave House

The shadows of visitors are cast into doorways at the Slave House museum on Goree Island off Senegal's capital Dakar, March 17, 2007. Millions of Africans were shipped through "the door of no return," such as the one at Goree Island, to a life of slavery in the Americas. Britain and much of the world marked the bicentenary of the abolition of slavery on March 25, 2007, but many Africans are still coming to terms with the impact on their country's development and the role Africans played in the capture and sale of fellow Africans.
