When the levees broke in August 2005 and New Orleans was ravaged by floods, the repercussions would be far reaching for the cityÕs residents. People suffered in many ways, including falling prey to disease, death, and loss of property. Having lost their homes, many New Orleanians were forced outside of the state to find shelter. The largest number of these people can be found in Houston, TX. The disappearing marshes around New Orleans, make the city very vulnerable for storm surges.
